Dalla radiologia tradizionale alla radiologia digitale

Abstract

La Radiologia è la branca della medicina che si occupa dell'uso dell'energia radiante, emessa sotto forma di raggi X o di altri tipi di radiazioni, finalizzata alla diagnosi e alla terapia delle malattie. Sul finire del secolo scorso, con la diffusione ed il costante progresso dei computer, soprattutto in termini di potenza di calcolo e di miniaturizzazione, si sono affermate nuove tecnologie nelle quali era fondamentale l’apporto di queste macchine. Intorno alla metà degli anni ‘80 del secolo scorso, viene introdotta sul mercato una nuova tecnologia, la Radiografia Computerizzata, basata sui fosfori fotostimolabili, in grado di dare immagini radiografiche digitali. Nasceva così una nuova branca della Radiologia, la “Radiologia Digitale”, e per questo le tecniche tradizionali basate sul sistema “pellicola + schermi di rinforzo” e su “schermo + monitor analogico” venivano da quel momento in poi comprese nella cosiddetta “Radiologia Convenzionale” o “Tradizionale”.
