ABSTRACT The main objective of this work is to inform the mother tongue Italian students who are studying Spanish as foreign language, on the difficulties they might come up with in respect to the possible combinations of a language and more precisely to the collocations, combination of words between free and fixed combinations sanctioned by the frequent usage. To establish that between two similar linguistic systems, among the possible combinations, certain words are combined with different verbs to express the same meaning or that there are cases where a syntagmatic structure of alanguage is translated in the other through a simple lexical unit or through an expression, etc., compromises, for idiosyncratic reasons, the linguistic capacity of our students. Furthermore, we want to contribute, in the field of contrastive phraseological studies, to the creation of combinatory bilingual dictionaries, a small practical contribution with the aim to satisfy the demands and needs of those students who aspire to develop their lexical competence.
