Potere e contropotere. Gli immigrati e la mass self-communication

Abstract

L’articolo prende spunto da due serie di dati, che riguardano la comunicazione degli e sugli immigrati. Da un lato, infatti, una recente ricerca Eurisko attesta come sempre più cittadini stranieri presenti in Italia facciano uso delle nuove tecnologie (telefoni cellulari e Internet, soprattutto). Dall’altro, aumenta il numero dei media multiculturali (giornali, siti web, ma anche emittenti radiofoniche) che, in diversi casi, vedono gli immigrati protagonisti di un’autorappresentazione. L’emergere di tali fenomeni richiama il dibattito sul ruolo attuale dei media mainstream, i quali, negli ultimi decenni, hanno recitato un parte determinante nel racconto dei flussi migratori, costruendo una serie di stereotipi che sono stati assorbiti dal tessuto culturale italiano. Ma, siamo realmente già di fronte al tramonto di un’epoca? La centralità mediale tradizionale ha lasciato spazio definitivamente a quella che Castells definisce una mass self-communication? Sul tema dell’immigrazione, nel nostro Paese, a che punto è quel confronto tra “potere” e “contropotere culturale”, teorizzato dallo stesso autore catalano? L’articolo prova a rispondere a tali interrogativi, tracciando uno scenario in cui, in realtà, i cosiddetti grandi media ed i professionisti dell’informazione appaiono svolgere ancora una funzione fondamentale nelle dinamiche socio-culturali del nostro Paese.
