This study concerns the norms to be implemented under the International Law of the Sea for securing safe trans-Arctic navigation, i.e. the current international framework for the regulation of the protection and preservation of the marine environment and the safety of the life at the sea, and not just the safety of the maritime traffic itself, with respect to the navigation across the Arctic from Pacific to Atlantic ocean and vice versa.
