Abstract

Il volume si propone di fornire le conoscenze di base della Climatologia, la scienza che si occupa di definire i climi, di classificarli, di spiegare le diverse cause che ne determinano l’esistenza e le modificazioni, di porli in relazione con i molteplici aspetti dello spazio geografico, e di interpretarne l’influenza sui vari tipi di ambienti, naturali e/o antropizzati. I primi cinque capitoli sono rivolti all’esame degli elementi meteorologici (radiazione solare, temperatura, umidità dell’aria, precipitazioni, pressione atmosferica e vento), mentre il suc-cessivo tratta dei principali fattori climatici e degli effetti da questi in-dotti sugli elementi appena citati. I capitoli VII, VIII e IX sono rispet-tivamente dedicati ai caratteri essenziali del clima a livello globale, ai metodi per le classificazioni climatiche ed agli aspetti generali del clima in Italia. Nel X è discusso il tema delle variazioni del clima e delle metodologie seguite per il loro studio; la questione è affrontata alle diverse scale temporali: dalle grandi oscillazioni nel corso del Fa-nerozoico alle fasi di breve periodo nell’Olocene. Conclude il testo una sintetica trattazione della climatologia dei cicloni tropicali e dei tornado.
