Digital maps and linguistic minorities: new technologies for linguistic research

Abstract

The aim is to observe the presence of new minority languages in Italy and to see how these languages become visible and rooted within an idiomatic space and the Linguistic Landscape. The research is carried out with cameras, digital audio recorders and hand held computers equipped with GPS to develop digital maps which associates geographical and linguistic data. The analysis focuses on the languages and the text types used in the Linguistic Landscape.
