Abstract

Il nesso aujdhvn qevspin di Th. 31-32 viene prima analizzato nel suo spessore semantico, quindi valutato nel suo significato, alla luce degli elementi di contesto. L’aggettivo qespis, frutto di una fortunata congettura di Goettling, è forma abbreviata di qespesios, termine ampiamente attestato nell’epica arcaica con valenze sensibilmente diverse, legate a un nucleo di senso condiviso che rimanda alla nozione della dismisura, di sovradimensione rispetto ai parametri dell’uomo. In ambito poetico questo significato piega in una direzione particolare che inaspettatamente si coglie nel passo omerico delle Sirene. Qespevsios è il canto che dà voce a un sapere immenso, ‘ineffabile’, i cui contenuti trascendono la dimensione umana spaziando in un orizzonte inconoscibile per l’uomo. A confortare questa interpretazione è proprio il contesto in cui si colloca il nesso a. q. in Th. 31-32. : Esiodo grazie alla voce ispirata dalle Muse, acquisisce la possibilità di cantare il futuro e il passato e dunque di spaziare in ambiti di conoscenza ordinariamente preclusi all’uomo ma straordinariamente aperti al poeta.
