Abstract

In un’epoca segnata da trasformazioni rapide, incertezza e crescente caos, le carte geografiche continuano a costituire strumenti fondamentali per conoscere e interpretare la contemporaneità e le traiettorie passate e future che la attraversano. Concepito in seno al progetto di eccellenza “Un senso nel disordine. Praticare la complessità” del Dipartimento di Civiltà e Forme del Sapere dell’Università di Pisa, il volume raccoglie una pluralità di voci in dialogo sulle forme con cui l’essere umano ha rappresentato lo spazio geografico. Articolato in tre parti – La cartografia nel tempo, Casi di studio e ambiti di applicazione, La cartografia per l’analisi e la gestione del territorio – il libro ripercorre l’evoluzione delle rappresentazioni territoriali e offre una riflessione sul contributo della cartografia e degli avanzamenti tecnologici, mettendone in evidenza sia la dimensione estetica e comunicativa che il potenziale analitico e (dis)informativo. Emerge un quadro articolato che sottolinea la centralità delle carte per “navigare” nella complessità del mondo contemporaneo.
