Etnografie pandemiche

Abstract

Negli ultimi due anni è apparsa un’ampia letteratura antropologica ed etnografica sulla pandemia da Covid-19 e sugli effetti sociali e culturali delle misure per il suo contrasto. Di particolare interesse sono gli studi comparativi che raffrontano la reazione alla pandemia in vari paesi del mondo. In questo scritto discuto due di questi lavori, Viral Loads (Manderson, Burke, Wahlberg 2001) e Negotiating the Pandemic (Ali, Davis- Floyd 2022), che includono decine di contributi riguardanti molte diverse aree geografiche e culturali. I principali temi che emergono sono: a) le metodologie di studio di una emergenza sanitaria che rende impossibile l’etnografia classica; b) i modi in cui le misure di contenimento del Covid hanno messo in evidenza e talvolta accentuato le disuguaglianze sociali; c) il problema dell’efficacia delle misure di contenimento e l’impatto della pandemia sul concetto di democrazia; d) il rapporto tra biomedicina e medicine tradizionali o alternative nelle pratiche di terapia e prevenzione del contagio; e) il ruolo dei fattori culturali nelle reazioni alla pandemia; f) lo sviluppo di forme di negoziazione locale dei significati del virus e del contagio attraverso un tessuto sotterraneo di voci, interpretazioni, teorie cospirazioniste.
