Abstract

La cultura occidentale è interamente percorsa dal filo nero della melancolia. Nozione proteiforme, forza oscura e potente nelle emozioni e nelle creazioni che genera, essa è tesa tra gli estremi del lutto, della tristezza, della paralisi da un lato, e la spinta demonica, la vis generatrice e indagatrice dall’altro. Vuoto, mancanza o male di vivere, possono rappresentare altrettanti motivi di perdita del senso oppure, all’opposto, fattori in grado di stimolare il pensiero critico incoraggiando l’accettazione della nostra fragilità insieme al limite e all’imperfezione che ci definiscono. Il volume indaga le complesse trasformazioni storiche della melancolia, per come è stata variamente declinata, mettendo in evidenza alcune delle figure fondamentali della sua caleidoscopica evoluzione. Gli autori dei contributi raccolti in questo volume appartengono, infatti, ad aree disciplinari diverse e l’intreccio dei loro sguardi – tra filosofia, letteratura, psicopedagogia, fisica, filologia, arte, cinema, religione e politica – rappresenta l’elemento distintivo della ricerca.
