Insegnare geometria

Abstract

In quest’articolo si riportano alcuni fatti che illustrano il ruolo della geometria come generatrice sia di conservatorismo sia di rinnovamento nel mondo della scuola. Riflettere sull’insegnamento della geometria è un’occasione per riflettere sui grandi temi dell’insegnamento della matematica: intuizione, rigore, approccio utilitaristico, approccio teorico, relazioni tra le varie parti della matematica, legami della matematica con le scienze e la società. Si conclude con la breve presentazione di due attività che possono essere sviluppate in classe (scuola secondaria superiore): il confronto delle risoluzioni di un problema fatte alla maniera di Euclide e di Descartes e una situazione di esplorazione di un problema con il calcolatore.
