Abstract

The text is a review of the book titled Didactics and Methodology of Teaching Polish as a Foreign and Second Language, published in Warsaw in 2020. The book highlights a little-known historical fact: the teaching of Polish as a foreign language dates back to the 16th century, predating the teaching of Polish as a native language in Polish schools by two hundred years. The monograph explores numerous topics related to the glottodidactics of Polish, a discipline currently undergoing significant development. Key subjects include teaching Polish as a second language and as the language of instruction in schools, the development of language skills, the teaching of Polish culture, and the theories of scholars such as A. Dąbrowska, M. Pasieka, and A. Seretny. The book is primarily intended for students of glottodidactics, teachers of Polish as a foreign and second language, and educators working with learners from migrant backgrounds. However, it may also prove useful to individuals not directly involved in teaching, such as cultural diplomacy professionals and specialists engaged in promoting the Polish language and culture worldwide.
