WEARABLE CERAMICS BYSHAE BISHOP WHO TRANSFORMS CERAMICS INTO TEXTILE

Abstract

Wearable art refers to wearable clothing and jewelry designs using human body as a showcase and made by hand adopting traditional methods and reflecting an aesthetical unity and a serious, unique artistic creation or expression. By using two supposedly incompatible materials like ceramics and textile together, Shae Bishop has produced wearable ceramics gloriously combining art and handicraft and exhibited his works, which are recognized as original works combining wearable art and ceramics, in many museums and art galleries. This article uses qualitative research to explore the technique employed by Shae Bishop, who revives ceramics in the form of textile, while producing wearable ceramics and his philosophy of creating clothing that build up stories around the body through references to the wearable ceramics he has produced by making connections between different handcrafts, social and cultural structures and his individual background. The data from document andwork analyses were supported and elaborated through the literature review.
