Abstract

In this study, the methods of supporting a 8 - block structure with permanent systems in Yalova are discussed. Soil profile has been formed with the data obtained from Soil Investigation Report and the application plan. The model was created by using Plaxis (Finite Element Method) program under real building loads calculated in the project. In the model, 4 blocks were made adjacent to each other and 4m elevation difference was applied between the blocks. Since the building was constructed in earthquake region with a disaster risk, the initial deformations caused by the construction were determined first and then the deformations were compared with the ones observed from the dynamic analysis. 2 different (Diaphragm Wall, Pile) techniques were selected to support the structure. For each method; analyses were done separately and the deformations were found by using different earthquake records which occurred in the region and around the world. Since the deformations occurred in the dynamic analysis were too large, anchor sand/or geogrids were used in addition to the support structure. Earthquakes cause damages and soil bearing failures in the disaster risk areas. Therefore, precautions should be taken against the risk of collapse before construction starts. For this reason, it is vital to start construction by improving the soil with supporting systems.
