New rules on marriage annulment. Key concepts of a relevant procedural reform. In the context of the Synod of the Family, Pope Francisco has reformed the processes of marriage annulment, which continue being one of the remedies to take into account in the pastoral care of divorced couples who are then remarried. Further developments of the motu proprio «Mitis Iudex» aim to speed up these processes, making them more accessible to parishioners, as well as to highlight their intrinsic pastoral dimension, thereby reinforcing the role of the Bishop therein and the need for closer integration of the Ecclesiastical Court in diocesan pastoral structures.
