Abstract

After Soviet Union´s dissolution Russia is seeking its position in the international community. In this process they occur simultaneously several elements: building/recovering a national identity, the deployment of an own foreign policy, and the adaptation to a mutant international order. During the first years of independence the attempts at insertion in multilateral institutions failed for various reasons which led to the initiation of unilateral actions from the Kremlin, as well as leadership in other regional organizations that were created basically for an instrumental target: capture and control the new independent republics against the power of attraction of the EU and NATO.
