In the general elections that were held last April, people with disabilities could exercise their right to vote, which until that date were excluded by the Organic Law of General Electoral Regime (LOREG), since no right to active suffrage was recognized to those declared incapable by virtue of a final judicial sentence , as well as those admitted to a psychiatric hospital with judicial authorization during the period of their internment . Organic Law 2/2018, of December 5, abolished this prohibition to guarantee the right to active suffrage of all persons with disabilities, or what is the same, to recognize the right to vote for all citizens without limitations.
