Abstract

This communication is intended to present the first results of an investigation of the current National R & D Plan (CSO2016-77549-P). When we talk about security we all know that, in addition to considering crime figures, we have to consider how to perceive security or insecurity of people. It is also known that there is not always a direct relationship between the two, that is, the existence of high crime rates in an area does not automatically correspond to a perception of high insecurity. Nor does the fact of having been the victim of a crime always imply an increase in that perception. Of these correlations between the objective and the subjective has already been spoken on many occasions, what is not so usual is to have data that corroborate it. This is the main contribution of our current research, conducting a survey of 3,900 individuals in several Spanish capitals from which we can respond to hypotheses such as problematic neighborhood environments imply a greater sense of insecurity or that people in situations of vital uncertainties personal also feel more insecure.
