Abstract

Because of IFRS 9 of Financial Instruments in 2018, a case is presented summarizing the application of this standard with a refinancing of bank financial debt. The registration of the operation is compared through the aforementioned IFRS 9 with the regulations in Spain for individual companies through the 9th Assessment Standard of the PGC. The objective is to show, through this case, the practical application of the quantitative and qualitative rules that the regulation indicates, to identify if the refinancing results in a new debt or if the debt remains the same as the beginning. The different accounting record of a new debt would be shown through the refinancing of original debt and the accounting record of a new debt without prior refinancing.
