Introduction: family is the best environment for teenagers to develop, as well as to prevent and protect them from risk behaviors. Objective: to analyze the relationship between the consumption of alcohol, family structure and the affection that teenagers perceive of their parents. Methodology: descriptive, inferential study carried out with an ad hoc questionnaire; stratified sampling of secondary schools in Madrid. Results: a representative sample of 2890 teenagers was obtained. Family structure has no impact on teenagers alcohol consumption, although it is related to abusive alcohol consumption (19% of teenagers belonging to single-parent father families and 12.5% to father reconstituted families). Those belonging to single-parent father families were the ones who drank most daily with their peers (15.6%) and those of single-parent mother families who drank the mos alone on weekends (13.6%) or week days (6.4%). A significant relationship was found between preceived family affection and alcohol comsumption/abuse. Conclusions: the type of family structure affects teenagers alcohol abuse, and the role of the father or mother influences it. The perceived family affection acts as a factor of protection against alcohol and as a preventive effect of the pressure of the group of equals for such consumption.

Introducción: la familia constituye el ámbito más adecuado para prevenir y proteger a los adolescentes frente a las conductas de riesgo. Objetivo: analizar la relación entre el consumo de alcohol, la estructura familiar y el afecto que los adolescentes perciben de sus padres. Metodología: estudio descriptivo inferencial mediante un cuestionario ad hoc; muestreo estratificado de centros de E.S.O. de Madrid. Resultados: Se obtuvo una muestra representativa de 2890 adolescentes. La estructura familiar no resultó significativa para el consumo de alcohol, pero sí para el abuso (19% de adolescentes pertenecientes a familias monoparentales y 12,5% a reconstituidas paternas). Los pertenecientes a familias monoparentales eran los que más bebían a diario con sus pares (15,6%) y los de monomarentales los que más bebían solos en fines de semana (13,6%) o entre semana (6,4%). Se encontró una relación significativa entre el afecto familiar percibido y el uso/abuso de alcohol. Conclusiones: El tipo de estructura familiar incide en el abuso de alcohol de los adolescentes, y la función del padre o la madre afecta a ello. El afecto familiar percibido actúa como factor de protección frente al alcohol y ejerce un efecto preventivo de la presión del grupo de iguales para dicho consumo.
