These reflections on the ministry of the Bishop of Rome are situated chronologically at the beginning of the fifth year of the pontificate of Francis. Although, over the pas four years, the Argentinian Pope has not dedicated an explicit and in deph consideration to the relationship between the exercise of the primacy and episcopal collegiality, a reference point wich is deeply related to his programmatic vision of a missionary Church that reaches out can be identified: the pastoral conversion of the papacy in a synodal Church. To do so, I will proceed in two stages: in the first, more narrative in nature, looking back, I will remember his first steps in the pontificate; in the second, more systematic in nature, I will try to refine the theological vision of the primacy that emerges in accord with his actions and his principles, this later reflected in his apostolic exhortation Evangelii gaudium.
