Abstract

Uno de los principales retos para los mercados de dinero, surgidos paralelamente a la crisis financiera, es la adaptación a la era digital. Los intervinientes actúan a través de nuevas tecnologías, redes sociales, móviles y las reglas del juego han cambiado. En los últimos años las palabras bitcoin o criptomoneda han sido portada de los principales periódicos financieros, planteando la posibilidad de crear una moneda universal que sirva de medio de pago y no dependa de ningún banco central. En este contexto han surgido de forma no regulada las monedas virtuales, que permiten eliminar intermediarios y abaratar los costes. El bitcoin es la más relevante de todas ellas. La cuestión es, hasta qué punto este producto financiero puede ser considerado un experimento o el inicio de una transformación profunda del sistema de pagos.
