ABSTRACT ION-DARCY FLOW BEHAVIOUR 15 PARTIALLY PESETRATIHG GAS VELLS ERARSLAN, Suna H, S. in Petroleum Engineering Supervisor: Asst.Prof.Dr. Coşan Ayan June 1990, 99 pages In this work, the combined and separate effects of partial penetration, skin factor and non-Darcy flow on the flow of natural gases through porous medium were studied. A thorough understanding of these phenomena is very important to predict the performance of gas wells. In order to study these concepts, a two dimensional, single phase numerical model, which also incorporates non-Darcy flow effects was used. Single-rate flow tests were simulated in one and two dimensions using a radial geometry. The inertial-turbulent (IT) flow factors and velocity coefficients were then calculated from the simulated tests and analytical equations for all runs. The analytical equations used in the calculations were developed throughout this research. The IT-flow factor and velocity coefficient values were also obtained using published methods. The values obtained from different methods were compared with each other, also considering the effects of changing fluid properties. iii -The study indicated much higher IT-f low factors in presence of partial penetration. It was also found that the new equations were able to predict the IT-flow factor quite successfully in presence of partial penetration and we 11 bore damage. Key Words: non-Darcy flow, inertial - turbulent flow factor, velocity coefficient, partial penetration, skin factor. 617.01.02 iv -
