Water jet pumps with multiple nozzles

Abstract

ABSTRACT WATER JET PUMPS WITH MULTIPLE NOZZLES GÜRSOY, Egemen M.Sc, Department of Civil Engineering Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsmail AYDIN Co-Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Mustafa GÖ?ÜŞ November 2002, 93 pages Jet pumps are used to transfer momentum from a high velocity primary jet flow to a circumscribing secondary flow of fluid to be pumped. Efficiency of momentum transfer to secondary flow is dependent on the area ratio of concentric pipes, relative flow rates and the geometrical design details of the pumping system. Multiple jet pumping concept is investigated experimentally by introducing three- nozzle pumping in place of a single nozzle pumping system. Driving and suction flow rates and pressure distribution in the mixing pipe are measured for varying area ratios of driving nozzle to mixing pipe. Pumping efficiencies of single nozzle and multiple nozzle systems evaluated over a wide range of area ratios are compared. Performance of single and multiple jet systems were found to be similar with no significant difference in terms of pumping efficiency. Keywords: Jet pump, multiple nozzles, pumping efficiency.
