Abstract

ABSTRACT A STUDY ON THE EVOLUTION OF A NEW URBAN DEVELOPMENT FORM: MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENTS, AND A PROPOSAL FOR A MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENT IN ANKARA KANSU, Özge Selen M. Arch., Department of Architecture Supervisor Inst ilhan Kural December 2001, 142 pages The thesis is based on a research on Mixed-use Developments in urban settings, which have been multiplying every day in parallel with the increasing requirements. The study starts with the analyses of historical and current situations related with the evolution and progression of Mixed- Use Developments and ends up with an alternative Mixed-Use Development Proposal for Ankara based on this research. The proposal is designed regarding the historical, social and physical conditions and. the modern life standards which are essential to such urban developments of Ankara. Being a Mixed-use Development, the proposal contains various functions in its unity such as an office tower, a condominium, a sports center and a shopping mail, including art `and retail shops, food courts, cinemas and an art gallery. In the proposal the urban, architectural and 111spatial qualities and considerations have been important determinants throughout the design phase. The research Is based on a sequential order, regarding the historical and social developments that have shaped the evolution of Mixed-use Developments. In this respect, first the developments throughout the world have been analysed with some common examples. Then the situation in Turkey and particularly in Ankara has been focused on, with contemporary examples related but not in full correspondence with the context In the sixth chapter, the design itself, the site, program and the project drawings and data have been displayed. The final chapter includes the discussions, conclusions and the suggestions for the further studies in the particular subject of Mixed-Use Developments. Gör. İlhan Kural Aralık 2001, 142 sayfa Bu tez gittikçe artan gereksinimlere paralel olarak çoğalan çoklu- kullanımlı merkezler üzerine bir araştırmayı temel almıştır. Çalışma Çoklu- Kullanımlı Merkezlerin tarihsel ve şimdiki koşullara paralel olarak oluşum ve gelişimlerini inceleyerek başlamakta ve bu araştırma sonuçlarına temel alarak Ankara için alternatif bir Çoklu-Kullanımlı Merkez önerisi ile sonuçlanmaktadır. Bu öneri Ankara'nın kentsel ölçekteki kamusal gelişmelerindeki tarihi, sosyal, fiziksel koşulları ve bu kentsel gelişmeler için önemli olan modem yaşam standartlarını göz önüne alarak tasarlanmıştır. Çoklu-Kullanımlı Merkez olması nedeniyle gelişim önerisi büro, konut (condominium), spor ünitelerine ek olarak, sanat ve ticaret dükkanları, yemek avlusu ve sinemaları barındıran bir alışveriş ünitesi ve bir de sanat galerisinden oluşan çok sayıda farklı fonksiyonu bünyesindekapsamaktadır. 5u öneri de kentsel, mimari ve mekansal nitelikler ile gözününde tutulacak hususlar tasan m sürecindeki ana belirleyicilerdir. Çalışma genel olarak Çoklu-Kullanımlı merkezlerin evrimini etkileyen tarihi ve sosyal gelişimlere ilişkin bir ardışık sırayı temel almıştır. Bu bakımdan öncelikle dünyadaki durumlar ve gelişimler bazı bilinen örneklerle birlikte incelenmiştir. Daha sonra genel kavramla ilgili örneklerle birlikte Türkiye'deki ve özellikle Ankara'daki duruma odaklanılmıştır. Altıncı bölümde tasarımın kendisi, arazi, program ve projeye ait çizim ve veriler sunulmuştur. Son bölüm ise konuyla ilgili tartışmaları, varılan sonuçlan ve gelecek çalışmalar için önerileri kapsamaktadır.
