Abstract

III ABSTRACT AXIS YMMETRIC DEFORMATION OF STEEL WIRE REINFORCED ALUMINIUM Toklutepe, Burak M.S., Department of Metallurgical Engineering Supervisor: Prof.Dr. Tayfur Öztürk January 1996, 53 pages A study is carried out into deformation behaviour of steel wire reinforced aluminium composites. For this purpose, three steel wires; highly ductile, moderately ductile and brittle, were used at two volume fractions, 1 % and 7 %. The composites were manufactured by casting and deformed axisymmetrically by swaging down to true strains of 3.2. Aspects such as macrostructural evolution, strain partitioning and aspect ratio were evaluated by radiographic and metallographic techniques. The study has shown that so as to obtain a macrostructure with fine reinforcement with large aspect ratio, the initial choice of reinforcement is critical. Brittle fibres as well as fibres of high ductility are not suitable as they would lead to either fragments of small aspect ratio or to the development of macrostructure in which the reinforcing phase is continuous. IV OZ ÇELİK TEL TAKVİYELİ ALÜMİNYUMUN EKSENEL SİMETRİK DEFORMASYONU Toklutepe, Burak Yüksek Lisans, Metalürji Mühendisliği Bölümü Tez Yöneticisi : Prof.Dr. Tayfur Öztürk Ocak 1996, 53 sayfa Bu çalışma, çelik tel takviyeli alüminyum kompozitlerin deformasyon davranışlarını incelemektedir. Bu amaç için, %1 ve % 7 hacim oranlarında aşın sünek, orta derecede sünek ve kırılgan özelliklere sahip üç değişik çelik tel kullanılmıştır. Kompozitler döküm yöntemi ile üretilmiş ve tokaçlama ile 3.2 lik germim değerlerine kadar eksenel simetrik olarak şekillendirilmiştir. Makroyapısal gelişim, germim paylaşımı ve takviye boy-en oram, radyografi ve metalografik teknikler kullanılarak incelenmiştir. Bu çalışma sonucunda yüksek boy-en oranlı ve ince takviyeli bir makroyapı elde etmek için ilk etapta uygun takviye seçilmesinin önemli olduğu belirlenmiştir. Düşük boy-en oranlı takviye parçacıklarına neden olan kırılgan fiberler veya sürekli takviye içeren makroyapı oluşturan aşın sünek fiberler uygun bulunmamış, orta derecede sünek fiberlerin en iyi sonucu vereceği belirlenmiştir.
