Design of surge tanks with expansion chambers

Abstract

ABSTRACT DESIGN OF SURGE TANKS WITH EXPANSION CHAMBERS YAPAN, Bekir M.S. in Civil Engineering Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali GÜNYAKTI June, 1994, 68 pages. An optimization study is performed for the dimensions of expansion chambers (galleries) in the case of special surge tanks with expansions. Within this scope, the items that affect the cost of the surge tank and unit price of each item are determined. A range, for the dimensions of the gallery, which satisfy both hydraulic requirements and construction difficulty is obtained. Then, a polynomial equation is obtained for this range. By using this polynomial equation with small incremental amounts, dimensions of the gallery and the cost of the surge tank is calculated. The dimensions that give the minimum cost are obtained and these dimensions are rechecked for the hydraulic requirements. For the surge tanks of Menzelet Dam and HEPP, Gezende Dam and HEPP and Adıgüzel Dam and HEPP, optimization studies are performed. öz HAZNELİ DENGE BACALARININ TASARIMI YAPAN, Bekir Yüksek Lisans Tezi, İnşaat Mühendisliği Anabilim Dalı Tez Yöneticisi: Doç. Dr. Ali GÜNYAKTI Haziran, 1994, 68 sayfa Galerili özel denge bacalarında genişleme haznelerinin boyutları için bir optimizasyon uygulaması yapılmıştır. Bu amaçla denge bacasının maliyetine tesir ederi kalemler ve bu kalemlerin herbirinin birim fiyatları belirlenmiştir. Galerinin boyutları için hem hidrolik hem de inşaat şartlarını sağlayan bir aralık belirlenmiş ve bu aralık için polinomik bir denklem elde edilmiştir. Polinomda çok küçük artırımlar kullanılarak galeri boyutları ve denge bacasının maliyeti hesaplanmıştır. Minimum maliyeti veren boyutlar hidrolik açıdan tekrar kontrol edilmiştir. Optimizasyon uygulaması, Menzelet Barajı ve HES, Adıgüzel Barajı ve HES ve Gezende Barajı ve HES' in denge bacalarına uygulanmıştır. Sonuçlar birer tablo halinde sunulmuştur.
