Konik kalorimetre analizleri ile poliüretan, polipropilen, polietilen ve akrilonitril bütadien stiren esaslı kompozit malzemelerin yanma davranışlarının incelenmesi

Abstract

Polymers are widely used in many applications due to their superior properties such as lightness, good chemical resistance, easy of production and good mechanical strength. However, they are flammable materials and can burn easily. Therefore, investigation of fire behaviours of the polymers is an important subject. In general, flame retardants are incorporated into the polymers to enhance the thermal degradation and the fire resistance. Among them, intumescent flame retardants have been preferred as the effective halogen-free flame retardants in the recent years. In this thesis, fire behaviours of rigid polyurethane foam (PUR), polypropylene (PP), high density polyethylene (HDPE) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) were investigated under different heat fluxes (25 kW/m2, 35 kW/m2 and 45 kW/m2) by using cone calorimeter tests. Different heat fluxes were used to represent different real fire scenarios. Moreover, effects of an intumescent flame retardant composed of ammonium polyphosphate and pentaerythritol on the fire resistance of PP and HDPE were investigated under 25 kW/m2, 35 kW/m2 and 45 kW/m2 heat fluxes. Furthermore, thermal degradation of the materials was examined by using thermogravimetric analysis. Besides the experimental studies, Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) which is a computational fluid dynamics program was used to model the burning of PP, HDPE, and ABS under the different heat fluxes.
