Orientalism is the entirety of all components related to itself; the statements articulated over itself, the stance adopted against or towards itself, the similes incorporated to describe it, a type of doctrine, a type of government and a mode of management. In short, orientalism is the effort of the West to enforce and maintain superiority over the East. While targeting the Westernization becoming a nation in the course of self orientalism has significant fields. The East(erner), which entered into the process of nationisation and reached a victory on its way to becoming a nation, is trying to dissuade itself by denying the other identities within it and by ensuring that the values of the sovereign nation are internalized. The aim is to out off their essence . In this respect, the main goal of the study is to associate the Dersim issue with the arguments of nationalism and self-orientalism. In this study, the Dersim issue was intended to be analyzed via the perspective of nationalism and orientalism. The process that led to Dersim issue was periodically categorized, folowed by the analysis of the reasons, consequences, extend of the issue, Kemalism, modernity and self orientalism, which itself is an internalized version of orientalism. Subsequently, the way nationalism and self orientalism functioned during this process was scrutinized.

Oryantalizm Doğu'yu kendine konu edinen kurumların tamamı, verilen beyenatlar, takınılan tavırlar, yapılan benzetmeler, bir cins öğreti, hükümet şekli ve yönetimim biçimidir; kısaca oryantalizm batının Doğu üstünde üstünlük sürdürme taktiği ve onun otorite kurma çabasıdır. Batılılaşmayı hedef edinerek gerçekleştirilen milletleşme serüvenleri self oryantalizm bağlamında önemli alanlar oluşturmaktadır. Uluslaşma sürecine giren ve bu süreç sonunda millet olma yolunda zafere ulaşan Doğu(lu), kendi bünyesinde bulunan öteki kimlikleri yadsıyarak, egemen ulusun değerlerini içselleştirmelerini sağlamak suretiyle özlerinden koparmaya çalışmaktadır. Bu tez çalışmasında Dersim Meselesi, milliyetçilik ve oryantalizm argümanları doğrultusunda incelenmek istenmiştir. Dersim Meselesi'ne gidilen süreç dönemlere ayrılarak-meselesinin nedenleri, sonuçları, boyutu, Kemalizm, modernite ve oryantalizmin içselleştirilmiş hali olan iç şarkiyatçılık üzerinde durulmuş, daha sonra ise milliyetçilik ve iç şarkiyatçılığın bu süreçte nasıl bir işlev gördüğü incelenmeye çalışılmıştır.
