Cahiliye dönemi Arap edebiyatında nesir

Abstract

The prose has a wide coverage in the Arabic literature history. From the debates about the rhetoric, stories, parables, erudite words and soothsayer's allusive wordsof the Jahiliyyah period it can be seen that those phenomenons made contributions to the development of Arabic literature. Despite the amount of prose materials of jahiliyyah is quite few, after the poetry, it's known that these materials form the foundation of Arabic literature. Meanwhile, the debates about the topic are related to what extent the prose art of that period preserved its origin rather than diversity of views on the existence of Jahiliyyah prose. Both according to some orientalists and to the most of Arab litterateurs, despite its fewness, the jahiliyyah prose exists. In the mean time, there are strong views that claim a part of prose which belongs to Jahilliyah period existed in the first and second centuries of Hijra. On the other hand, both the language and the style used in the Qur'an shows that these materials were exist in the Jahiliyyah period. However, it's understood till the first period of Islam's emergence, there was neither any serious development of prose nor many written materials.Key words: jahiliyyah, jahiliyyah period, prose, Arabic literature, jahiliyyah poetry
