In this study; that was planned determining causes of anxiety about anesthesia, considering preoperative and postoperative anxiety levels, examining the effect on anxiety of the anesthesists preoperative visit on patients who planned elective surgeryThe study is planned 200 patient who referred to Anesthesiology and Reanimation Department of Dicle University Medical School, 16-60 years old which planned elective surgery under general anesthesia. The patients were visited two times; preoperative one or two days ago and postoperative first day. Anxiety values were measured with STAI Form TX-1, the causes of anxiety about anesthesia were measured with a questionnaire that has 12 questions. At the first group the visit was stopped after the questionnaire and accepted that was enough evaluating and informing at polyclinic. At the second group before the patients were informed enough then the visit was stopped after the questionnaire. The day after the operation all the patients were visited again on their clinic and the questionneire form was read by anesthesist to patients and their answers were noted. As as conclusion; that was determined; anxiety values of patients were high at preoperative time and female sex, having got 1-4 children, urban life, low or high income levels had a meaningful connection with preoperative anxiety. The causes of anxiety interested in anesthesia were frequently postoperative pain, cannot recover at postoperative time and stay in intensive care unit. With a quality visit we determined that the anxiety can be decreased.
