Abstract

Organizational silence is a concept that began to subject of the researches, recently. The concept of silence has become important by the understanding that the source of many problems is to remain silent of the employees. The employees exhibit silence behaviors based on several reasons. The silence behaviors based on indifference and submission, the silence behaviors based on self-defense and fear, the silence behaviors based on prosocial tendencies, the silence behaviors based on to protect relations are some of them. The attitude of the senior management or the section manager in the organizations, the lack of communication opportunities cause to turn into a climate of silence. It is seen that the perceived silence climate and silence behaviors of the employees are interacted.In this study, the climate of the organizational silence, silence behaviors of the employee and the performance notions are emphasized. To determine the interaction between these notions, a research is done on teachers which study on private educational institutions. By using obtained data, the relations between the sizes of the climate of the organizational silence, the size of the employee silence behaviors and performance of the employee are analyzed. Also, the demographic characteristics of teachers surveyed (age, gender, marital status, work experience, task, and department) with the climate of silence, silence behaviors and performance relation is investigated.As a result of this work, meaningful relations between the climate of the organizational silence, silence behaviors of the employees and the performance of the employees were determined. Furthermore, the perceptions of the climate of the organizational silence differ from the most of the silence behaviors and demographic characteristics of the performance.KeywordsThe Climate of Organizational Silence, The Silence Behaviors of the Employee, The Performance of the Employee

Örgütsel sessizlik, son zamanlarda araştırmalara konu olmaya başlamış bir kavramdır. İşgörenlerin sessiz kalmasının, örgütlerdeki pek çok sorunun kaynağı olduğunun anlaşılmasıyla sessizlik kavramı önemli hale gelmiştir. İşgörenler çeşitli nedenlere dayalı sessizlik davranışları sergilemektedir. İlgisizliğe ve boyun eğmeye dayalı sessizlik davranışları, kendini korumaya ve korkuya dayalı sessizlik davranışları, prososyal eğilime dayalı sessizlik davranışları, ilişkileri korumaya dayalı sessizlik davranışları bunlardan bazılarıdır. Örgütlerde üst yönetimin veya bölüm yöneticisinin tutumu, iletişim fırsatlarının azlığı, sessizliğin bir iklim haline dönüşmesine neden olmaktadır. Örgütlerde algılanan sessizlik iklimi ile işgörenlerin sessizlik davranışlarının birbirini etkilediği görülmektedir.Bu çalışmada, örgütsel sessizlik iklimi, işgören sessizlik davranışları ve performans kavramları üzerinde durulmuştur. Bu kavramlar arasındaki etkileşimi belirlemek amacıyla özel eğitim kurumlarında çalışan öğretmenler üzerinde bir araştırma yapılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler ile örgütsel sessizlik iklimi boyutları, işgören sessizlik davranışları boyutları ve işgören performansı arasındaki ilişkiler analiz edilmiştir. Ayrıca, araştırmaya katılan öğretmenlerin demografik özellikleri (yaş, cinsiyet, medeni durum, iş tecrübesi, görevi, çalıştığı birim) ile sessizlik iklimi, sessizlik davranışları ve performans ilişkisi incelenmiştir.Bu çalışmanın sonucunda, örgütsel sessizlik iklimi, işgören sessizlik davranışları ve işgören performansı arasında anlamlı ilişkiler olduğu tespit edilmiştir.Ayrıca örgütsel sessizlik iklimi algılarının, sessizlik davranışlarının ve performansın demografik özelliklerin çoğuna göre farklılık gösterdiği belirlenmiştir.Anahtar SözcüklerÖrgütsel Sessizlik İklimi, İşgören Sessizlik Davranışları, İşgören Performansı
