Bankalar için stres testleri

Bankalar için stres testleri

Abstract

Together with Basel regulations, the financial stability of banks has begun to be measured according to the Capital Adequacy values in the market. In particular, the end of the 90's and the first decade of the 2000's have witnessed serious financial crises after globalization and liquidity abundance. One of the most common tools to determine the potential risks in banking is stress testing and Basel principles incorporate stress testing application for banks either, but there are important deficiencies about the inherent system which needs to be improved immediately. The aim of this study is to point out that the Basel rules are inadequate in the context of fair treatment of all the countries responsible for these principles through the Turkish Banking Sector. In the study, the Turkish banking system was subjected to an econometric analysis over the factors affecting the capital adequacy ratio, and the findings showed that the exchange rates was a negative and significant effect on the capital adequacy ratio. Then, with the economic capital model, which includes exchange rate shocks, was used to apply a stress test on a balance sheet of a bank, and the results showed that the exchange rate factor had at least as much impact on capital adequacy as the one-notch downgrade of the country's sovereign rate.Key words: Capital adequacy ratio, exchange rate, ICAAP, stress test, panel data
