Abstract

Kentler tabiat şartları, yapıları ve beşeri yönleriyle muhtelif karakter özellikleri gösterip birbirlerinden ayrılırlar. Bir kenti, öbüründen ayıran ve farklı kılan her şey onun kimlik unsuru sayılır. Kentleşme, kentsel dönüşüm, turizm gibi konular gündeme geldikçe, kent kimliği de ön plana çıkmakta ve yapılacak faaliyetlerin planlanması ve uygulanması üzerinde etkili olmaktadır. Günümüzde kentlerin kimliklerini yitirerek gittikçe birbirini andıran dokuların ortaya çıkması kültürel anlamda bir sorun olmakla kalmayıp, ekonomik, sosyal ve psikolojik sonuçlar doğurmaktadır. Kentlerin kimliklerini koruyabilmesi ve kimliklerine uygun gelişebilmesi, gelişimin ekolojik, sosyal ve kültürel boyutlarının ihmal edilmemesine bağlıdır. Gelişme yolundaki kentlerin büyümesi kent kimliği gözetilerek gerçekleştirilmelidir. Bu da kent kimliğinin, önemli bir planlama parametresi olarak ele alınmasını gerektirmektedir. Ayrıca, bir kentin kimliğinin oluşumunda son derece etkin olan kent sakinleri ile kentin doğal değerleri, kentin planlama stratejilerine de yön verebilmelidir. Bu anlamda, kentin kimliğine sahip çıkmak başta o kentte yaşayanlara düşen görevlerdendir.

Cities indicate various character attributes by their natural conditions, structures and human aspects. Everything that distinguishes cities from each other considers its identity elements. As long as topics like urbanization, urban transformation, tourism becomes a current issue. Urban identity becomes prominent and assumes an affective role by planning and implementing activities. Nowadays the identity values of cities are increasing and resembling patterns are appearing. Thus it is not only a cultural problem but also an economic, social and psychological consequence. The protection of identity and the development according to identity of cities depends on ecologic, social and cultural dimensions of development. The growth of developing cities has to be considered with urban identity. This requires the identity addressing as an important parameter of the city planning. Besides city-dwellers and natural components which are efficient factors on formation of urban identities must also dominate planning strategies for city development Therefore, adopting the urban identity is an important mission of the citizens.
