Covıd-19 pandemisi sürecinde gençlerin benlik sunumu: TikTok örneği

Abstract

The aim of this study is to explain the sociological dimension of the pandemic and the measures against the pandemic and to determine how the Z Generation, who stayed at home for a long time during the curfews within the scope of these measures, present their identities in the TikTok application in the context of their social media usage level and how effective their use of the application is in their communication with others. Although there are studies on topics such as pandemic, social media, and Generation Z in the literature, these three issues are discussed in the context of TikTok application in this study. In this study, whose theoretical framework was formed by the symbolic interactionism approach, users aged 20 and under who actively use the TikTok application during the curfew were reached. In this direction, in-depth interviews were conducted with 20 people. According to the findings obtained as a result of the interviews, the TikTok application has gained a place in the life of the Z generation and some members of this generation preferred to present their selves differently than they are on this application. In the context of shared content, it is seen that they prefer to get the admiration of others and to interact with others in this direction. Therefore, this situation has revealed that the socialization perceptions of the participants have undergone a change in the direction of realization through social media.
