Benzin istasyonu çalışanlarında lipid peroksidasyonu düzeylerinin araştırılması

Abstract

VII. SUMMARY Exposure to petroleum fuels and motor vehicle emissions are known to be harmful to health. In this respect gasoline station attendants are at particular risk due to the nature of their job. In this study, we measured plasma malondialdehyde levels as indicator of lipid peroxidation in gasoline station attendants occupational ly exposed to petroleum fuels and motor vehicle emissions (n=30). Results were compared with occupational ly non-exposed control group (n=24). We also investigated the effects of other factors, including serum cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglyceride levels, age, duration of employment, smoking and alcohol consumption on lipid peroxidation. The mean plasma malondialdehyde level of workers was significantly higher as compared to controls (p=0.0001). In addition, serum HDL levels were significantly lower than controls (p<0. 005), while serum cholesterol, LDL and triglyceride levels did not change. There was not any correlation between lipid peroxidation and related parameters. We also did not find any effect of age, duration of employment, smoking and alcohol consumption on plasma malondialdehyde levels.
