Abstract

As the raw material cost constitutes the majority of the yarn production costs, it is critically important to know the desirable fiber characteristics that we need for our yarn characteristics and for the selection of the suitable cotton blend. Many theoretical and experimental studies on the prediction of cotton yarn properties from fiber properties were carried out by several researchers. However, in the literature survey, we could not find any essential study on the prediction of sirospun yarn characteristics using the fiber and yarn features. In this thesis, it is aimed at determining the equations and models for estimating the sirospun yarn quality characteristics from the yarn production parameters and cotton fiber properties which are measured by the HVI and AFIS systems. For this reason, yarn samples were produced by using 11 different cotton blends and 3 different strand spacing setting (3mm, 6mm and 9mm), in 4 different yarn count (Ne 20, Ne 30, Ne 40 and Ne 50) and in 3 different twist coefficient (?e4.0, 4.5 and 5.0). For the prediction of yarn quality characteristics, multivariate linear regression methods were performed. As a result of the study, equations were derived for the prediction of yarn tenacity, breaking elongation, unevenness and hairiness by using fiber and yarn properties. After the goodness of fit statistics we have observed very large determination coefficient (R2 and adjusted R2).
