Prediction of air permeability of single jersey cotton fabrics related to pressure difference

Abstract

Airpermeability has an important role among clothing comfort characteristics andit is a complex feature that is affected by many parameters. It makes heattransfer easier besides more comfortable feeling due to high breathability. Theaim of this study was the prediction of air permeability by both fabricproperties and pressure drop. For this purpose, an equation was presented bylinear regression method using fabric density, tightness factor and pressuredifference. The results of the variance analysis showed that the airpermeability could be estimated with high reliability. The study also testedair permeability values at increasing pressure differences in order toinvestigate the behaviour of fabric structures related to pressure difference. The results indicated that the applied pressure differences increased the airpermeability values and the tendency of increment changed depending on thefabric tightness. This situation was defined by the relation between airpermeability and porosity. A deformation in loose fabric structures at high airpressure differences was revealed.
