Substituent effects on imidazole derivatives

Abstract

This thesis that consists of three parts is related with 1,3-disubstituted imidazolium bromide (1-5) and their catalytic properties. The first part is a concise review about imidazoles and their importance and usage. In part two the experimental details were given. Part three covers the synthesis, characterization and in situ catalytic activities for the Suzuki and Heck coupling reactions of 1,3-disubstituted imidazolium salts in presence of Pd(OAc)2. In this study, series of 1,3-disubstituted imidazolium salts which contains ?- and ß- ester groups on nitrogen atom (1a-1b; 2a-2b; 3a-3b; 4a-4b; 5a-5b) were synthesized. After characterization of imidazolium salts by spectroscopic methods (IR, 1H NMR ve 13C NMR), catalytic activities of all the related salts in the presence of Pd(OAc)2 for Suzuki and Heck reactions were examined.
