Authors: Pakel, Murat;

Water vapor permeability of polymeric membranes

Abstract

VII ABSTRACT WATER VAPOR PERMEABILITY IN POLYMERIC MEMBRANES Pakel, Murat MSc in Chemical Eng. Supervisor: Doç. Dr. Sevgi Ulutan September 2002, 113 pages In this thesis, the effect of silane incorporation with PVC on water vapor permeability was studied. Membranes of various thicknesses which have been cured at different temperatures and times, were produced from the PVC/DOP plastisols containing different amounts of gamma- aminopropyltrimethoxysilane by using a film knife. It was observed that the membranes containing silane have lower permeability than that of unsilanized PVC. By silane incorporation no structural change was observed by means of spectrophotometric and calorimetric investigations. Also it was found that the mechanical strength of the films increased with silanization. Keywords: PVC, silane, gamma-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane, DOP, membrane, permeability
