Abstract

THE INVESTIGATION ON QUALITY CHARACTERISTICS WITHSEED AND HAY YIELDS IN SOME ALFALFA CULTIVARSKIR, BehçetPh. D. In Field Crops DepartmentSuperviser : Prof. Dr. Hikmet SOYAMarch, 2006, 119 pagesThis trial was conducted in the experimental fields of Ege UniversityFaculty of Agriculture, department of field crops for three years, during2001-2003. Totally, 16 alfalfa cultivars were used. In this trial, 5 of themwere used for hay production and 11 of them were used for seed production. In hay production trial; differences between years and varieties weresignificant for green matter-hay-dry matter-crude protein-crude ash yieldsand Cinna was at the top of rank among the varieties and yieldperformances increased continuously and significantly in the duration ofsuccessive years. In seed yield trial; differences between varieties weresignificant in terms of seed yield and GW variety had the highest yieldwhereas C-9480-9540-9550 had similar performances following GW. Seedyield and 1000 kernel weight increased in 2001-2002 and then decreasedKeywords Alfalfa, HayYield, Seed Yield
