Quality aspects of compact spinning

Abstract

The compact or condenser spinning process produces a new yarn structure, which is the result of eliminating the spinning triangle which, in conventional ring spinning, is a potential weak or problem spot which negatively affects spinning stability and same yarn quality parameters. In this article, some of the quality parameters of compact yarns are compared with conventional ring-spun yarns. The experimental work was carried out as an RM 350 conventional ring spinning machine and as an RM 700 compact spinning machine (both from Zinser) on carded and combed 100% cotton. The yams were then tested an various instruments, including the Zelliveger UT3, the Textechno Stationat and the Zweigle G566 hairiness tester, and the results are noted reduced hairiness and increased strength and elongation are cited as particular advantages of the compact yarns.
