Abstract

The Kaz Dagi Region is located between 38.50º-40.50ºN latitudes and 25.00º-28.50ºE longitudes. This region occupies an area on Alp Mountains belt extending from Azores island to Indonesia region with its of the geological structure and morphotectonic features. All the earthquakes, occurring in the area, are under the effects of the active faults. Here the active faults are the most important evidences for the subject under discussion and the epicenter coordinates support the evidences. The mentioned area occupies a place, especially on the first and second seismic zones of Turkey, but it also covers in certain areas the third and the fourth seismic zones.In this paper, firstly, it is proposed to investigate the earthquake activities collected from various record books (A.D. 11-2000). Secondly, the Gumbel and Gutenberg-Richter methods are applied to the annual maximum earthquake data which covers the period of 1900-2000 and the magnitudes are equal to or greater than 4, and the results compared with İstanbul and İzmir seismotectonic areas in The Western Anatolia. Finally, relatively high risk values are found for this period. For example: The annual mean maximum magnitude is 4.7 M and annual mean seismic risk is 63 % in the mentioned area. Key words: Kaz Dagi, Earthquake, Seismic risk, Seismicity, Turkey.

Bu çalışmada sismotektonik bakımdan 38.50º-40.50ºN enlemleri ile 25.00º-28.50ºE boylamları ile sınırlanmış bulunan Kaz Dağı ve civarı, jeolojik yapısı ve morfo-tektonik özelliği itibariyle Türkiye ile birlikte Asor adalarından Endonezya’ya kadar uzanan Alpin Kuşak’ta yer tutmaktadır. Kaz Dağı ve çevresinin depremselliği ve deprem riskinin ortaya konulması amacıyla hazırlanmış bulunan bu çalışmanın birinci kısmında çeşitli deprem kataloglarından elde edilen kayıtlara dayanılarak Kaz Dağı ve çevresinin deprem etkinliği incelenmektedir. Çalışmanın ikinci kısmında ise 1900-2000 yılları arasında Kaz Dağı ve çevresinde meydana gelen magnitüdü 4’e eşit ve daha büyük olan depremlerin yılların en büyük deprem değerlerine standart sapma analizi ve Gumbel-Gutenberg-Richter yöntemleri uygulanarak, İstanbul, İzmir ve Muğla sismotektonik yöreleri ile karşılaştırmalı olarak Kaz Dağı ve çevresinin deprem riski ortaya konulmaktadır. Örneğin: Kaz Dağı ve çevresinin yıllık ortalama maksimum magnitud 4.7 M, yıllık ortlama risk ise % 63 olarak saptanmıştır. Anahtar kelimeler: Kaz Dağı, Deprem, Deprem riski, Depremsellik, Türkiye.
