Abstract

The world has entered a rapid digitalization process under the influence of Industry 4.0. This process, accelerated with the Covid 19 pandemic, has affected production structures in all sectors. Companies that transformed their production methods, working conditions, marketing techniques, purchasing and sales processes, becoming more competitive, agile and project oriented in their operations. Among the companies most affected by this transformation process are undoubtedly SMEs. SMEs, which constitute %99.8 of the companies in Turkey, are trying to keep up with this digital transformation. It has become a critical requirement for SMEs to achieve digital transformation to improve their competitiveness and operate more effectively in global markets. The digital competencies and entrepreneurship competencies described by the EU Commission guide companies in these processes. In this context, the goal of this thesis is to evaluate the current state of digital competencies of SMEs in İzmir and to identify the key factors influencing their ability to adapt to digital technologies. The thesis will first address the current state of SMEs' digital competence levels in Turkey. Then the digital transformation process of SMEs in Turkiye has been examined, and the steps these companies have taken towards digitalization, the challenges and opportunities they face have been explained. The last part of the thesis focusing on SMEs in İzmir, the data gathered through the survey method were analyzed. Besides these, based on the survey results strategic recommendations are presented to increase the digital competencies of SMEs. The outcome of the thesis will contribute to SMEs to maintain their place in the digital world and make technology-oriented progress.

Endüstri 4.0 etkisiyle dünya hızlı bir dijitalleşme sürecine girmiştir. Covid-19 pandemisi ile hızlanan süreç tüm sektörlerde üretim yapılarını etkilemiştir. Üretim şekilleri, çalışma koşulları, pazarlama teknikleri, satın alma ve satış süreçleri değişen işletmeler daha rekabetçi, daha çevik, daha proje bazlı hareket etmeye başlamışlardır. Bu değişimden en çok etkilenen şirketler kuşkusuz KOBİ'lerdir. Türkiye'deki şirketlerin %99,8'ini oluşturan KOBİ'ler yaşanan bu dijital dönüşüme ayak uydurmaya çalışmaktadır. KOBİ'lerin rekabet güçlerini arttırmaları ve global pazarlarda daha etkin faaliyet gösterebilmeleri için dijital dönüşüm süreçlerini tamamlamaları kritik bir gereklilik haline gelmiştir. AB Komisyonu tarafından tanımlanan dijital yetkinlikler ve girişimcilik yetkinleri firmalara bu süreçlerde yol gösterici olmaktadır. Bu kapsamda tezin amacı, İzmir'deki KOBİ'lerin dijital yetkinlik düzeylerini belirlemek ve dijital teknolojilere uyum sağlama yeteneklerini etkileyen temel faktörleri belirlemektir. Tezde öncelikle KOBİ'lerin dijital yetkinlik düzeylerine etki eden faktörlere yer verilmiştir. Ardından Türkiye'deki KOBİ'lerin dijital dönüşüm süreçleri incelenmiş ve bu şirketlerin dijitalleşme yolunda attığı adımlar, karşılaştığı zorluklar ve fırsatlar açıklanmıştır. Tezin son bölümünde, İzmir özelindeki KOBİ'lere odaklanılarak anket yöntemi ile elde edilen veriler analiz edilmiştir. Sonuçlardan yola çıkılarak KOBİ'lerin dijital yetkinliklerini arttırmak için stratejik öneriler sunulmuştur. Tezin sonuçları KOBİ'lerin dijital dünyada yerlerini koruyabilmek ve teknoloji odaklı ilerlemeler göstermelerine katkıda bulunacaktır.
