Abstract

The present study attempts to explain, through the observation of a certain spectrum of the Brazilian television advertising, different models of normative bodies and practices, staged in advertisements for products related to the phenomenon of the body cult. We see advertisements of consumer goods intended to correct, alter or enhance body characteristics, and presenting at least the image of one person. The advertisements were randomly collected between July and December, 2011. The research is divided into two parts: firstly, evaluates how different imagery references of physical fitness are presented, noting the connections between the fields of health and beauty. To do so it takes as theoretical support the Foucaultian concept of biopower. At this time we also evaluated the role played practices to body care and health. On second place, it focuses on the visibility of the demarcation of difference in performances of identities in markers of advertising characters such as gender, sexuality, age and skin color
