Raiva urbana: epidemiologia e controle

Abstract

Despite of being known since the antiquity, even today the rabies is a disease of worldwide distribution that causes big impact in public health, especially at development countries that have the dog as an urban reservoir, being the principal transmitter of the disease to the man. As a consequence, the number of human deaths has increased around the globe, spending public resources that could be directed to rabies prevention activities, considering the disease has a high mortality level. As occurred in most of the countries in Latin America, Brazil created in 1973 the National Rabies Prophylaxis Program that helped controlling the disease in the national territory.
