Abstract

Concerning the studies of Puccinia psidii (Myrtaceae rust) biology were appraised the patogenicity in differentiating plants, the most favorable temperatures to the infection of the hosts, formation of telial sori, basidiospores production and urediniospores germination with different ages and collected from different hosts. It could be verified that mild temperatures favored the whole vital cycle of the pathogen once, when the same ones varied from 150 to 230C benefited the infection, induced to the telial sori formation and high basidiospore production. Besides increased the urediniospores germination. Regarding the urediniospores, it could also be verified that the age of those structures have fundamental paper in the percentage germination increase: urediniospores with 14 days, collected from apple rose (jambos) and submitted to 210C, presented about 37% of germination. For the structures with 21 days, coming from guava plants and exposed to 150C was registered germination percentage around 35%. Both taxes are considered quite high. Beyond, remarking the previous data, depending on the host which urediniospores are collected can have physiologic differences that result in distinct behavior at the temperature which they are exposed. The existence of physiologic variability inside Puccinia psidii populations was verified through crossed inoculations. Were obtained four groups due to the compatibility reactions, and the main difference was observed in the interactions severity of the disease. Attempts were accomplished for obtaining the rust axenic cultures, however the results were negative. Evolution observations of the rust in field, during the years of 1999 and 2000, allowed to verify the largest picks of occurrence in February (guava plants), in March (Eucalyptus cloeziana) and in April (apple rose, E. urophila, E. botryodes and E. grandis from Itatinga and Anhembi)... .
