Abstract

Besides the sucess of root canal treatment of teeth, a successful final restoration is also important for long-term clinical sucess. The influence of endodontic irrigation on bond strengths of resin cement (self-etching adhesive) to radicular dentin was investigated. Sixty extracted single-rooted human teeth were subjected to post space preparation after endodontic therapy with three different root canal irrigants (n = 20): Group 1: 0,9% sodium chloride (control); group 2: 2,5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl); group 3: 2% chlorhexidine gel (CHX). Post space was also treated with sodium chloride, NaOCl or CHX and subdivided into A and B (without or with 17% EDTA) (n = 10). Posts of resin cement were cemented and the specimes were sectioned into four dental slices approximately 2 mm each (2 cervical, 2 middle). They were submitted to the push-out test. The data were submitted to an analysis of variance (ANOVA) and scanning electron microscopic (SEM) analysis was performed in specimes. The mean values (MPa) obtained were: Group 2A) 5,95 > Group 3A) 5,72 > Group 3B) 4,77 > Group 2B) 4,26 > Group 1A) 4,22 > Group 1B) 3,60. The groups that used 2,5% NaOCl and 2% CHX showed highest retention, and 17% EDTA decreased bond strength to root canal dentin, however, no significant differences were found among groups (p > 0,05)...(Complete abstract click electronic access below)
