Abstract

The present in vitro investigation evaluated the reproducibility of two different methods of marginal microleakage diagnosis: 1 - visual analysis with a 20X microscope (qualitative analysis); 2 - digital image associate with Image Tool v3.0 software (quantitative analysis). For this purpose 53 class V restorations were made at the vestibular face of bovine tooth, free of cracks and caries, and restored with adhesive system (Single Bond) and composite resin (Z100), following the manufacturer's instructions. After the statistical analysis, the Kappa values (for score evaluation) and intra-class correlation (software evaluation) were calculated, showing the agreement level of the diagnosis. The Kappa values showed good (0,6259) and excellent (0,8985 and 0,8868) levels of agreement and, using the software Image Tool, the intra-class correlation values showed excellent levels of agreement (0,9999, 0,9997 e 0,9991). These results showed that both methods: the digital analysis and the visual evaluation have a high diagnostic agreement for the marginal microleakage at composite resins restorations, when a previously calibration of the examiners were made.
