História e arte sacra do Conjunto Carmelita de Santos

Abstract

The objective of this research is to rescue the imaginary of Santos City, which preserves work of art of Priest Jesuíno from Carmel Mount, Benedito Calixto, altarpieces, ornamental tiles of centuries XVII and XVIII. The approaching of the research seeks to rescue the visibility, technique and the events that had involved the Carmel priests together with the foundation of Santos village in 1540. The Church of the third order was raised 150 years after the church of the first order of Carmo, however, the two had been joined by a tower, creating an uncommom front ion the Baroque Brazilian style. In the present paper the quantify of both was catalogued and analyzed following the orientations of the IPHAN Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico Artístico Nacional (Brazilian Historical Institute). There are still enclosed in this research a comparison between the Carmelite temples of Itu, Mogi das Cruzes and Santos, extending the understanding of the symbolic universe and the Feelings that permeat the population that lived in the period of baroque / recoco arts. The representation and metaphor permeat the comparisons beteen the three churches, significantly, dors, windows, dragons, arcs and scrolls gain force and feelings. The communication does not need words, is the fondness to see, something that materializes of the subjetive onto the objective. The space is image and enters in communication with the observer. All the documentation of the research is involved with the historical fact and the photographic documentation aims the understanding of the religious masterpiece with the analysis of its technique and aesthetic composition. In this way this paper offers a reflection to the interested parts a reflection of the in Carmelite history and their artistic constribution for the religious temples of the Barroque art/rococó style.

Objetiva-se com esta pesquisa resgatar a história de Santos através do conjunto arquitetônico Carmelita, que guarda obras de Padre Jesuíno Monte Carmelo, Benedito Calixto, retábulo-mor com elementos ornamentais do estilo nacional português, azulejos marianos originais e imaginárias do século XVII e XVIII. A abordagem da pesquisa procura resgatar a visualidade, a técnica, e os acontecimentos históricos que envolveram os padres carmelitas junto com a formação da vila de Santos em 1540. A igreja da ordem terceira foi erguida 150 anos depois da igreja da ordem primeira do Carmo, no entanto, as duas foram unidas por uma torre, criando uma fachada incomum no barroco brasileiro. Na presente pesquisa o arcervo de ambas foi catalogado e analisado seguido as orientações do IPHAN- Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico Artístico Nacional. Ainda estão incluídas nesta abordagem a comparação dos templos carmelitas de Itu, Mogi das Cruzes e Santos, ampliando a compreensão do universo símbolico e dos sentimentos que permeavam a população que vivia no período de arte barroco/rococó. A alegoria e a metáfora permeiam as comprarações das três igrejas, significativamente, portas, janelas, dragões, arcos e volutas ganham força e sentimentos. A comunicação não precisa de palavras, é o querer ver, algo que se materialize do subjetivo para o objetivo. O espaço é imagem e entra em comunicação com seu espectador. Toda a documentação da pesquisa está envolvida com o fato histórico e a documentação fotográfica visa o entendimento da obra religiosa com a análise de sua técnica e composição estética. Deste modo, está dissertação oferece aos interessados uma reflexão da história dos carmelitas e sua contribuição artística para os templos religiosos de estilo barroco/rococó.
